About This Blog

Does anyone even read blogs in 2024? Maybe they aren’t as popular as once they were, but if you are reading this, that's all the proof I need that people still enjoy them

Two passions of mine are music and writing, the former being something that has consumed a large portion of my life for the last 20 years or so. Collecting records started as a bit of fun, developing into “I’m only going to get a few records that mean a lot to me,” before falling into hunting rarities, pre-order anxiety vs the euphoric rush of snagging something I want, over-spending, and paper cuts while flicking through racks.

Do I regret anything about it? Not at all.

After dipping my toes into writing for a music website some years ago, going from a contributor to the Editor in a few years, I had to walk away from it because, you know, life. Since then, I’ve been wanting find a way to enjoy writing about music again but on my own terms. I didn’t want deadlines, restrictions, or the feeling of promoting something I didn’t care about. After a failed attempt to start a fully-fledged website during lockdown on my own, to an unpublished blog at the back end of 2022, I put the idea on the back burner.

Then it hit me; Why don’t I just write about records in my collection? No one needs a review of the music on a record that’s been around for 20 years (there may be some of that) but what if I write about the physical record itself, why I picked it up, the story behind finding it and such, that could be fun right?

So that’s what this blog is about, because for me record collecting is all about the journey and not the destination. I don’t even know what the destination is for me and collecting, but this journey has given me so much. Maybe it’s time I give something back. Even if this becomes a diary type blog of my collection that no one reads, it will be fun all the same. Perhaps I’ll end up writing other pieces down the line, who knows. Once again, it’s all about the journey.

My collection doesn’t just cover one genre. I know the varsity type font at the top and the name itself suggests hardcore, but it’s a lot more than that. Hardcore is certainly at the centre of a lot of what I listen to, and in the way I live my life, but my music taste spans across many styles of music. I’m not going to list them all here, that would take forever and then I’d probably have to put the word ‘post’ in front of all of them again and it becomes unending.

Finally, the name. Yeah, I know it’s the title of the documentary Bane put out about their final tour. It’s just a homage to a band that gave me so much and helped shape the man I am today. Also, a lot of records represent moments in time, and you are literally holding those moments in your hands. Besides, I just thought the name sounded cool so I ran with it.

I had planned to only write a quick paragraph here, so if you stuck it out to this point, I appreciate you reading.
